We had our Spring Cheers yesterday and it was the perfect Cozy Corners: Game Night! It was the “playing games around the kitchen table” energy that we all needed. There were only 4 of us but boy the laughs, snacks, tea, and friendly competition between folks who don’t even know each other … my heart got so big seeing it.
The wall of games at Squarrel Cafe in Brooklyn NY
Squarrel Cafe was once again an inviting host, with a wall of games and a menu of finger snacks and both hot and iced teas. While their vegan options are extremely limited, their Bubble tea got mixed reviews from our crowd with one finding it pricey for the quality, and others enjoying it. The Kung Pao dumplings were tasty with the sauce, and the fries and crispy chicken were alright. The Citrus Garden and Amethyst Bloom iced teas were pretty good and the Ferrero Latte got a glowing review at our previous Cheers game night. Overall, this place isn’t really a place to go for the food, but certain items are a nice add on when you’re deep in gaming mode and want a snack/drink.
Playing Mastermind at our last Cozy Corners: Game Night last December at Squarrel Cafe
About the games, our last game night in December saw us enjoying Squarrel’s Mastermind even though it was missing a some pieces and instructions. With a little creativity and Google, we made it work but this time we dived into a new game, Blockus. None of us had ever played this one with its deceptively simple directive. We got into it pretty quickly, laughing and snacking the whole time. Villains emerged (haha!) and by game 3 we had locked in, learned quickly what works and what doesn’t, and friendly competition heated up. Three hours was the perfect amount of time to really get into it and relax.

THIS is what we’re doing, Lord let me never forget it. We are forging bonds that lift us over here. I feel so full of life! I’m going to find a way to make these smaller lower key Cozy Corners more often (per client requests!) while I sort out how to make the bigger collaborative wellness events happen…
