🍁Do you get S.A.D. this time of year too?🍁
Those who know me know there are 2 seasons for me: Summer and Winter😅 (fall=early winter, spring=late winter)😂. Seasonal Affective Disorder used to hit me HARD every year around September as temps started coming down but mostly, it really got me when the darker days rolled in. With less sun and no warmth, it was rough.
For those of you familiar with that story, perhaps we can share the tools that help pick us up. Just to help anyone who's in a similar boat looking for a paddle...
I'll start with some of the things that help me:
🧶Handmaking my sweaters and warm accessories gets me excited about wearing them which in turn makes me look forward to cooler temps cuz there's nothing like looking fabulous AND being warm enough.
🍂Actually going outside (like for our Sunday classes in the park) even though it's cold helps me appreciate the light, lil warmth from the midday sun, and dramatic colors and displays in early winter. As an active seeker of all things magical, the changing leaves and holiday decorations are hard to beat.
🕯Lastly but most importantly, using candles and color lights has been one of the biggest ways I make peace with my nemesis, the longer nights. Turning a smart light to warm red or soothing blues and lighting candles does wonders for making the darkness a little cozier.
So what helps pick you up in the darker colder months?
